Annual tree trimming in West Hollywood will begin on Monday and continue through February.
West Coast Arborists, the contractor hired by the city, will start with tree trimming in commercial areas before moving on to trimming in residential areas.
Trimming will begin along Sunset Boulevard, where it will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. In order to minimize impact on traffic, westbound lanes will not be affected until after 10 a.m., according to the city.
After trimming on Sunset, West Coast Arborists will move on to Beverly Boulevard, then Santa Monica Boulevard, and then other major thoroughfares.
The city plans to post “no parking” signs as needed with scheduled trimming activities at least 24 hours in advance. It will use door hangers, electronic message boards and website/social media announcements to notify residents about trimming.
I could not agree more! Let the trees grow more before you hack them apart. I always thought they were trimmed way to often. I’m glad to know I’m not alone.
They shouldn’t be trimmed every year. Most of the them look terribly over trimmed. I wish they would call in a real arborist to consult to guide them on how often they should trim. Anyone uneducated person looking at them now would know they don’t need to be touched this year…and for a few more years down t’line perhaps. Let them thrive a little before you hack ’em back!
Trimming? You mean beheading. This has always been a concern when it does not involve power lines as it seems a needless shearing and expense and have rarely seen judicious pruning or care. Is there an arborist assigned to the forest or elsewhere in nature? Of course not, there is a natural process. There are numerous beautiful trees on private properties on some of our major streets that have avoided excessive surgery. I would not point them out for fear of a small army of errant arborists with itchy buzz saws.
The last thing those sickly looking trees on Santa Monica Bl. need is trimming. Let them grow and perhaps in another 14 years they might offer some shade. Invest the money in fichus trees when each of these embarrassing mistakes fall down or are knocked down.
Note: The only trees along the boulevard that look healthy and provide the promised shade are the fichus adjacent to The Lot.
