A rollicking music destination by night, the Sunset Strip is a major traffic thoroughfare by day. With the Sunset Strip Music Festival this weekend, there’ll be lots of music by day and night, with the closure of Sunset Boulevard affecting traffic Saturday and Sunday.
Sunset will be closed between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard from 3 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday, with detours posted.
The closure is sure to back up traffic on other streets in West Hollywood and Hollywood. The city of WeHo has advised drivers to expect delays “during peak traffic times in the afternoon and evening.”
City of West Hollywood public information officer Joshua Schare advised people to allow extra time if they will be driving in the vicinity of the event. He suggested that Santa Monica Boulevard would be “a good east-west route for the weekend.”
Drivers might prefer to avoid the area altogher—unless, of course, they’re headed to the Strip for the festival itself.
Alt-rock band Jane’s Addiction will kick off the event and will receive the festival’s annual Elmer Valentine Award.
Other performers will include: Failure, Cold War Kids, ††† (Crosses), Minus the Bear, Kaiser Chiefs, The Birds of Satan, Nightmare and the Cat, Beware of Darkness, Say Say, Empire of the Sun, Mayer Hawthorne, Iration, Big Data, Tove Lo, Big Freedia, We Came as Romans, Nostalghia and Fenech-Soler.
Living nearby, the fest was relatively nondisruptive apart from the obvious traffic on adjacent streets. However, they did expand from one to two days this year without having as far as I am aware neighborhood notification or input. The # of sheriff deputies and volunteers helping maintain traffic was improved, and I was able to talk to the Lieutenant in charge about one issue. Curious about how other neighborhood folks reacted.
