The L.A. County Medical Examiner / Coroner’s Office today confirmed the identify of a man found dead at WeHo’s 24 Hour Fitness last week as Jon Cory Quinlan. A spokesman for the office said the cause of death has not yet been determined and that the office is conducting a toxicology exam.
Quinlan, known to many friends as Cory (some records note his middle name as Kory), was 60 years old and lived on San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood. His body was found at around 1 a.m. last Thursday in the steam room at 24 Hour Fitness.
Sgt. J.R. Klaus of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station said a cleaning lady found Quinlan’s body and notified authorities. Klaus said deputies searched the locker room and other areas and hadn’t been able to find identification for the man, who was later identified from his fingerprints.
24 Hour Fitness is a gym at 8612 Santa Monica Blvd. across from Westmount. While it is called 24 Hour Fitness, the gym closes at midnight Mondays through Thursdays and at 11 p.m. Fridays through Saturdays.
What men’s locker room isn’t disgusting? You have a bunch of sweaty men in there 20 hours out of the day. Unless there are 2-3 cleaning staff in there all the time it will be at least somewhat dirty. cleanliness is not to blame for the guy’s death.
I agree about David, luckily, he is gone… Michael is the interim manager, haven’t really talked w/him but already an improvement. We’ll see who they hire!
I should have said that the manager, Dave, is definitely being replaced. He hasn’t been there in months, and I was told by two of the staff that he is gone for good. They don’t know when the replacement is going to show up, but the place seems to be running pretty well without him.
I am curious, though, what responsibility the club may have for locking up that night without anyone checking the sauna where they would have found this man, and maybe would have been in time to save him.
I’ve gotta defend 24 Hour here, Jobe. I don’t see it that way at all. I do see club members leaving their towels in the floor, and a puddle of water in front of their locker where the rest of us have to be careful to avoid, but it seems to me that staff follows up on these pigs fairly quickly. The only problem I’ve had there is with the manager, Dave, who is often abrupt, abrasive, rude, unpredictable and, frankly, a little crazy, but apparently he is being replaced. The rest of the staff could not be more pleasant… Read more »
The locker room there is disgusting, the staff could care less, towels everywhere, the clientele is hopelessly indifferent….all around a bad situation…not surprising in the least.
I refuse to step foot in the place anymore…..no amount of new equipment can make up for
the poisonous indifferent attitude that exists in the place. If the employees can’t keep the
place even basically clean, what makes anyone think they would find a dead body in the steam room. Hopeless. The manager should have been fired a long time ago.
