The next phase of construction of the Sunset La Cienega Project on Sunset Boulevard will require closing the block of La Cienega Boulevard between Fountain and Sunset for several weeks, diverting eastbound traffic onto Fountain and westbound traffic onto Holloway.
That stretch of La Cienega, a major north/south connector, will be closed at some point from August into September to install and upgrade underground utilities. Traffic also is likely to be interrupted on Sunset Boulevard as construction crews dig trenches to install power lines. According to the city, Sunset Boulevard will not be permanently closed at any time.
The work on La Cienega will only take place during daytime hours because of apartment and condo buildings and the Sunset Marquis hotel are located on that block. While La Cienega will be blocked to through traffic, access will be provided to the Sunset Marquis and residential buildings. Work on Sunset Boulevard will take place around the clock.
Sunset La Cienega, formerly known as Sunset Millenium, is a massive development by the CIM Group that includes a parcel east of La Cienega that will have two 10-story towers with 296 hotel rooms and 15,000 square feet of retail space. The parcel between La Cienega and Alta Loma will have two eight-story towers with 190 residential units and 55,000 square feet of retail. Both parcels will feature large public plazas with viewing terraces. Work on the project began in August 2013 and has required removal of parking spaces on the north side of Sunset Boulevard across from the project’s westernmost lot..
More information is available from the Sunset La Cienega Project managers at (213) 861-6126 or at info@sunsetlacienega.com. Updates will be posted regularly to the project’s website.
I also am “curious why there is no mention if Alta Loma will be opened to through traffic during that particular week? How could it NOT be considering the effect this will have on those of us who live near Fountain/La Cienega?”
This is so f’ing frustrating. I hate this project.
