Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Crosses WeHo Tomorrow

The City of West Hollywood will serve as a location tomorrow for the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The torch, which is called “The Flame of Hope” will be handed over to the final leg team of the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

2015-Special-Olympics-World-Games-logo-400x412The torch will be carried tomorrow in a delegation of athletes from Plummer Park to West Hollywood Park, stopping en route at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial. Cody Pierce will hold the torch. Pierce, a runner who has a cardiac condition and an implanted pacemaker device, will compete in the 100 meter and 4×100 meter relay.

Rolling street closures will occur between 5 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on westbound lanes of Santa Monica Boulevard as the torch moves from Plummer Park to West Hollywood Park.

At 6:45 p.m., there will be a ceremony at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive, with members of the City Council in attendance.

The Special Olympics World Games 2015 will take place in Los Angeles from July 25 to Aug. 2. More than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries are expected to compete in various competitions, which include gymnastics, cycling, sailing, and powerlifting.
