The Penthouse, a nightclub at 661 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood, caused a nighttime stir on Sunday with the opening of its “Day Club” Sunday series.

Chris BrownThe invitation-only event attracted a number of people who apparently weren’t invited, such as the rapper The Game; Tygress, the professional wrestler known for her appearances with Nitro and the Filthy Animals, and Chris Brown, the singer and songwriter who also is known for his conviction for assaulting his girlfriend, Rihana.

Lt. David Smith of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station said deputies working with the club’s security escorted some people out of the overcrowded event. Normally only 200 are invited to the opening event but many more showed up this time, Smith said.

Smith said three to four men outside the club began fighting, which was broken up with no arrests. He said the Sheriff’s Station is meeting with owners of the club to discuss ways to improve crowd handling.

The incident sparked alarm in the nearby neighborhood when a Sheriff’s Department helicopter buzzed overhead warning people on Robertson to get in their cars and leave the area.

I DON’T THINK THAT THERE ENOUGH SHERIFFS IN THE WHOLE STATE TO CALM THAT BEAST. The SADDEST of realities is true in Weho. The division between the haves… Read more »

I sense everyone dancing around a very delicate situation. Is this a rap/hip-hop club opening opposite the Abbey during Sunday Funday? My heart goes out to the West Hollywood police department on managing this situation…
