The City of West Hollywood will co-sponsor the first annual Lambda LitFest, a week-long celebration honoring LGBTQ writers and readers in West Hollywood and throughout the greater Los Angeles areas.
Several Lambda LitFest events will take place in the City of West Hollywood — all events are free to attend:
— “An Evening with Bryan Fuller” will take place on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. south of Santa Monica. The event will feature Fuller in conversation with Alonso Duralde and Dave White of the TV and film podcast “Linoleum Knife. ” Fuller, a gay TV writer and producer, has written for “Star Trek: Voyager,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Dead Like Me” and “Wonderfalls.” His forthcoming TV series are “Star Trek: Discovery” and “American Gods.”
— “Gay Theatre, Its History, and Its Future” will take place on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. south of Santa Monica. Coordinated by Victor Bumbalo, the discussion will include fMichael Kearns, Robert Patrick, Tom Jacobson, Mary Casey, Odalys Nanin and Donald Jolly who will offer perspective on the roots of LGBTQ theater and its impact on LGBTQ culture.
— “Sister Spit: The Next Generation” will take place on Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Sister Spit began in 1994 as a group of “the most notorious, talented and just frickin’ interesting women and dykes,” that toured the United States. “Sister Spit: The Next Generation” continues in the tradition of the original group by taking an intersectional and often humorous lens to the issues of feminism, race, size, class, identity, technology, gender, and sexuality.
— “Literary Drag Race — All Stars Pop Up” will take place on Sunday, March 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at The Abbey, 692 N. Robertson Blvd. in the Cabana Bar. Loosely modeled around R”uPaul’s Drag Race, “the event will feature Victor Yates in RuPaul “boy drag” and performers in various styles of drag, with three pit crew members. The performers will read new work that they have written or pages from banned books.
— “No Cure for Madness — Queer Male Poets on Death, God, and Desire,” will take place on Sunday, March 12 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. east of Larrabee. The poetry reading will be by three queer men of color — Kazim Ali, Blas Falconer and Miguel Murphy.
Additional events will take place throughout the Los Angeles area and online during the week-long festival, which also features a full day event on Saturday, March 11.
