Second Annual Lambda Litfest Kicks Off Tomorrow in Downtown LA

The second annual Lambda LitFest Los Angeles begins tomorrow at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, 244 San Pedro St., in downtown Los Angeles.

The event features a variety of speakers on a variety of subjects. In addition to forums there will be workshops for which one can sign up in advance to participate. Admission is free to the forums but those attending are asked to register online. Those attending workshops are charged a fee and also must sign up online in advance.

11 a.m.

“Geekdom in the Fiefdom”
Moderated by: Sam Maggs and featuring Henry Lien and Baruch Porras Hernandez

“A Big Queer Reading / Writing Round Robin.” Moderated by Rocío Carlos, Yazmin Monet Watkins and Terry Wolverton and feature traci kato-kiriyama.

“But Make It Funny.” Workshop moderated by Dennis Hensley

12:45 p.m.

“Everything You Wanted to Know about Being a Queer TV Writer but Were Afraid to Ask.” Sponsored by the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, moderated by Charles Jensen and featuring Zac Hug, Danny Tolli, Greta Heinemann and Moisés Zamora.

“Your Voice is a Hammer: A How-to for Manifestos, Rants, & Tweetstorms.” Workshop moderated by Meliza Bañales (aka Missy Fuego)

“Taking the Tragedy Out of LGBTQ Young Adult Fiction: Writing Fun, Fluffy, Romantic Queer Teen Stories.” Workshop moderated by Amy Spalding.

2:15 p.m.

“Queer/Sex/Work.” Moderated by Natalie West and featuring Vanessa Carlisle, Chingy (aka Lani Ching), Antonia Crane, Softcore Mija and Christopher Zeischegg (aka Danny Wylde)

“How to Give Great Read!” Workshop moderated by Hank Henderson.

“Getting Started In New Media.” Workshop moderated by CB Lee.

3:45 p.m.

“It’s Very That: The Ever-Evolving Queer Label.” Moderated by Zach Stafford and featuring Kay Ulanday Barrett, David Francis, Jewelle Gomez and Randa Jarrar.

The festival comes to a close next week on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood with a live taping of the LA Review of Books (LARB) Radio Hour podcast with featured guest Patrisse Cullors, cofounder of Black Lives Matter.
