City Councilmember Lauren Meister will host a community forum to discuss homelessness in West Hollywood on Thursday.
The forum will be an opportunity for residents to discuss homelessness in West Hollywood and efforts to alleviate the issue and help those in need. There will be opportunities for community input regarding short- and long-term solutions for homelessness and its impacts on residents and businesses.
Those attending will include representatives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, staff members from the City of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Department and Code Compliance Division, Corri Planck, the city’s Homelessness Initiative project manager. A representative from L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s office also will be present.
The forum will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. and is free and open to the public.

@Adam, thank you for your research on this issue. But if Council Member Meister doesn’t already know the intricacies of this issue or the community’s perspective and input thus far, she hasn’t been listening.
I doubt very much that anything new or brilliant will come out of yet another meeting on this topic. What she and city staff will most likely hear are more naive examples of what other cities are doing without a mention of their failures and consequences.
@Anitah J. Carlisle – Utah’s homelessness problem (like many places) is worse now than anyone can ever remember. That article you posted was a small snapshot in time, but like West Hollywood and the entire LA region, the homelessness problem anywhere needs much more complex and comprehensive solutions. This is a continuation of the City and Councilmember Meister’s efforts to gain input from residents and then offer possible solutions. None of us are happy with the homeless situation in our City. Yet, it is not going to go away. I have read solutions that have come from the City’s forums thus far and they provide some concrete actions to address the situation. I appreciate the work being done.
The State of Utah solved chronic homelessness by giving them homes, no questions asked, and saved the State millions. Every state needs to do this
because the homeless are migrating to Southern California to escape the cold weather. There is no way we can cope with the influx of the homeless from all the other states. They have to take care of their own. Instead of having another meeting with the same people – including council members who should have much knowledge on this subject already… i hope they open it up to invite int he homeless people and get a real perspective. all the chit chat in the world does not matter without outreach to the homeless community.
I presume the intentions are good & politicians have to at least give the appearance being useful. But come on folks,, the homeless problem is huge & cannot be solved even by federal or state or big city governments, much less small local governments.
Oh I did hear Heilman say he’d “Met with Sheila Kuel” to solve the homeless problem, I wonder if Heilman has reported on the way or ways in which he has made progress. (lol)
The city is already taking action to help individuals who need and accept assistance. Elected officials and city staff should be at a point of knowledge where action is what’s necessary, not more meetings.
It’s time to get city officials out of meeting rooms allow them to do the work.

Councilmember Meister…not a solution but…it will help with the overwhelming number of homeless in out neighborhood – help us get the Pavilions Recycle Center closed. Its presence has had a very large negative impact on our neighborhood. Thank you.
