A community meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10 at Plummer Park to discuss the latest project on North Hayworth Avenue.
The project, at 1223 N. Hayworth, between Fountain and Norton, would involve the demolition of a four-unit apartment building for the construction of a new three-story, 12-unit apartment building with one level of subterranean parking.
John Mayer, a senior planner in West Hollywood’s Community Development Department, said that half of the units are one-bedroom and the other half are two-bedroom units. Each unit would have access to private balconies. There are five units that would also have a roof deck. The project has not yet been deemed complete by the Planning Division, Mayer said.
The community meeting will take place in Room 1 of the Plummer Park Community Center at 6 p.m.

We need to put a stop to this ridiculous over development. We’re going the way of San Fran and NY, and we’re all gonna be out soon. This is also an atrocious building.
Hi Hank: In the future perhaps Wehoville could publish a photo of the existing property alongside the rendering of the proposed project. Not that we can’t drive or walk by to see it but the comparison in print would be illuminating and may motivate more folks to help discourage such maneuvers as this one which ultimately eliminates rent stabilized units and displaces tenants.
The existing building is beautiful and well-maintained. What a shame to replace this with this UGLY modern crap! Not just that, but another loss of rent-stabilized units.
The new buildings in West Hollywood prove what the esteemed architect Frank Gehry said about today’s modern architecture: “98% is sh-t!” This building is a prime example. Hey, but why protest with the Townscape Three and the Three Johns running things. After all, for any visitor to West Hollywood it’s a step back into the pre-Berlin wall style of design, especially when you head south on La Brea from Fountain and make a right on Santa Monica going West!
The rendering is made to make the 3 story building not very tall next to the current 2 story next to it. So funny…..or is it?
Well, I take that back, I do care what they look like, but not as much as the destruction of our rent stabilized buildings.
I don’t really care what they look like. I care what they rent for. Most likely, what is being torn down is rent-stabilized and the new one won’t be. How long before WeHo has NO rent stabilized buildings because of greed?
Well said Todd. Let’s start off the New YeR by NOT accepting any of this perfunctory, offensive design. The residents of West Hollywood are not the target or willing recipients of of financial manipulation and code shuffling that gives the developers their perceived goals and the community nothing in return.
Do all architects use the same CAD renderings that make these in-fill projects all look the same or is the design really that similar to all the others I’ve seen? Totally unimaginative with a terrible facade facing the street.
