The City of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series will present “Human Rights and Civil Liberties: One Year After the Inauguration,” a panel discussion reflecting on the Trump Administration’s first year. The event will take place on Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.

“West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series brings together a diverse cross-section of panelists to focus on important global, national, and local human rights issues,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. “It’s vital that we educate one another and work together to combat efforts that serve to erode human rights and civil liberties.”

The Human Rights Speakers Series panel will feature representatives from leading advocacy and research groups who will discuss how the policies and rhetoric of the past year have impacted human right and civil liberties. Panelists include:

–Salam Al-Marayati, President, Muslim Public Affairs Council;

–Maria Sjodin, Deputy Executive Director, OutRight Action International (formerly the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission);

–Sue Dunlap, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles;

–Adam P. Romero, Director of Legal Scholarship and Federal Policy, Williams Institute, UCLA School of Law; and

–Yosimar Reyes, nationally acclaimed poet, educator, and activist.

The panel will be moderated by Mayor Heilman.

A “Call to Action” dessert reception, catered by La Conversation Café, will follow the discussion. The event is free to attend; reservations are requested and can be made online. Validated parking will be available in the adjacent five-story parking structure.
