A shoplifter at West Hollywood’s Block Party store threatened a staff member with a knife Monday in what ended up as an eccentric walk down Santa Monica Boulevard until he was arrested at the Santa Palm Carwash at Palm Avenue.
Sascha Sanchez, the sales clerk on duty, said the man had come into the store several times before and had stolen merchandise. Sanchez filed a report with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station four days ago about the thefts.
Today, at around 1:20 p.m., he returned. When Sanchez asked him to leave because of his earlier thefts, the man pulled a knife on him.
Sanchez’s husband, Pawel Majewski, was in the store at the time and pursued the man. Majewski videotaped the man, as shown in the video posted above, as he meanders down Santa Monica Boulevard, at one point stopping to threaten Majewski with a knife. He then enters the Santa Palm Carwash. Sanchez had alerted nearby Sheriff’s deputies who arrested the man. He currently is in custody on a robbery charge.
Larry I am completely disappointed in this situation . I am just wondering why the boyfriend of the employee engaged and pursued the thief and gave chase? Call non emergency sherriffs number! This tactic to be allowed in your store into a public space is quite irresponsible to provoke the person with the knife on multiple occasions and gave chase into the public streets and sidewalks which could have placed the public’s safety in jeopardy! What if other people were walking by when he was lunging the knife? Furthermore your employee was provoking saying get the f out “girl” get… Read more »
Yes, call the Sheriff’s non-emergency line. Then start roasting a turkey. By the time LASD shows up you will have a nice snack for them.
Businesses in West Hollywood should all contribute to hire a parol like Hollywood BID or we should boycott local businesses until they hire public protection. If they want our money they should protect us.
WeHo is about two square miles. The city should just hire security guards to walk SMB and Sunset on foot 24/7 to help the police. The number of crime incidents in WeHo is astronomical in proportion to its size. As you can see, it’s dangerous just to walk around during the day.
We did. They’re called “Ambassadors”.
they just ride around. hire more police officers…..and have a presence in the city.
Please. When do you ever see them? And they are unarmed
The very last thing a store employee should do is pursue or engage a shoplifter, its not worth what could potentially happen over what was most likely a $5.00 loss to the store. Clerks have been killed trying to stop shoplifters from stealing a bag of chips or less all over the Country. Let the shoplifter go, call the police and let the owner of the store take measures to prevent or dissuade shoplifters. Don’t risk your life for so little.
I get your point, but I want to thank the guy who chased after this man. Otherwise, the nut case would still be on the streets with a knife.
That store sure has a lot of incidents. Hopefully they have the latest, high definition cameras covering the store.
We have multiple camera systems. The guy who followed the shoplifter was not a store employee, but his husband who was in the store at the time. Staff is clear on procedures. As far as all the incidents our doors are open all day when other places around us are closed. Most other stores do not have an appeal of open to everybody open type of place in the middle of all the bars and restaurants we are one of the few stores left and there are so many drug addicts and homeless who are usually treated with a welcome.… Read more »
