Tony Ueber, CEO of 24 Hour Fitness, has responded to reports that it is considering filing for bankruptcy with a statement that neither confirms nor denies the reports but says “like many companies, we are looking at a number of different opportunities to work with our partners to improve and enhance value.”
“Regardless of any near-term challenges faced by 24 Hour Fitness and the fitness industry generally, I remain confident that we will reemerge stronger and better for the long term,” Ueber said in an announcement to gym members.
“As we prepare for this moment, we are reimagining the club experience from touch-free club check-in through the 24GO app, as well as social distancing throughout the club with space between equipment and between individuals in group fitness classes. We will share more details with you in the near future and look forward to seeing you in our clubs. Please rest assured we will carefully open clubs in accordance with public health guidelines and in a manner that safeguards the health and well-being of our members and team.”
Ueber also said that the company has suspended charges levied to members credit cards while the gyms are closed. “Billings will not be reinstated until such time as clubs are able to reopen to members.”
The West Hollywood gym, located at 8612 Santa Monica Blvd. just east of Westbourne Drive, has been especially popular among gay men in WeHo. However, in recent years it has drawn criticism for taking too long to repair broken equipment, ending its free towel service and not dealing efficiently with customer service issues like failure to quickly refill toilet paper and soap containers.
It has remained popular in part because it is one of the more affordable gyms (with memberships for as little as $35 a month) in an increasingly expensive city where a membership at Equinox can cost $300 a month and a membership at Monarch Athletic Club ranges from $1,250 to $2,000 a month (including related health services).
You can’t possibly compare Equinox or Monarch Athletic Club to 24. Its like comparing a Bidet to a diaper full of caca. They’re trying to justify a hike in membership coming, only to limit members an hour appointment to workout and close down every night for supposed cleaning. They need to change the name if all locations are going to close at night and limit members time at the gym. New name should be “Limited Fitness” what a scam of a gym

Suspended billing! There are so many of us who you have fraudulently taken money from our accounts and you are making money on our money because you won’t refund us our monies. Shame on you! Ps they charge me dues and charged me $234 for training I wasn’t having back in Feb. I now file fraud claims at my bank. If I didn’t I wouldn’t get my money back if they file! It’s disgusting!!

It is up to you to stop the payments – do you have any correspondence from them in relation to this? Can always ask your credit card company to reverse the payments.

What sucks is the new members who paid who knows what to join and are still being charged only a month or two in their memberships . What sucks for 24 is all those members who lag and never go realized they are wasting money on membership they don’t use and end up cancelling during this time. 24 hr banks on this income from non users . Well first of all. They did still charge me for a monthly fee and in addition the annual fee of 48.00 all within the last 10 days and when I questioned it by email only cause you can’t call . They reply four days later was they apologized for the billing and the amount would be extended at the end of my contract . We want 24 Hour fitness to reopen soon as we know the company is taking efforts to make it a safe place to work out in this situation. We, the members are responsible citizens and will continue to ensure that everyone’s health is important.

For all the seniors that have health issues and desperately need the jacuzzi is a bear having 24 hour closed. Myself its a hardship because I still run a business and need to relax my mussels with direct pressure from the jets .
