The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in West Hollywood continues to grow very slowly. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports 142 WeHo residents are infected as of today, an increase of one from yesterday’s 141.
The Health Department said there have been 815 new confirmed COVID-19 infections countywide, bringing the total to 29,427. There have been 51 new deaths, bringing that total to 1,418. Three West Hollywood residents have died thus far.
Forty-two people who died were over the age of 65 and six were between the ages of 41. The Health Department did not report the ages of the other ten people who have died. Thirty-five people had underlying health conditions including 32 people over the age of 65 and three people between the ages of 41 to 65.
The Health Department’s COVID-19 database continues to report that only 704 West Hollywood residents have been tested for the virus, which is almost certainly inaccurate since that figure has not been updated for several weeks. The Health Department has expanded its mobile testing sites with some operated by Optum Serve and Verily Life Sciences. The closest of the 20 locations is on Alden Drive at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Some WeHo residents have reported that Cedars-Sinai appointments have been unavailable recently because of the surge in applications. Applications for testing can be made online. https://covid19.lacounty.gov/testing/
The number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills as of today is 115, a decline from yesterday’s count of 116. Such changes sometimes occur when the Health Department learns that the address of the infected person is incorrect. The number of infections in Culver City grew by two to 90. The Hollywood neighborhood had four new confirmed infections, bringing its total to 206. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by six to a total of 400.
As reported yesterday, the Health Department has issued a five-stage “roadmap to recovery” that describes a phased approach to relaxing select directives of the state Safer at Home order and a reopening process for certain business sectors. As of tomorrow, the implementation of Stage Two will allow the opening (for curbside pickup only) of bookstores, florists, music stores, toy stores, apparel retailers, sporting goods stores, and car dealerships. Car dealerships, golf courses and trails will also open with appropriate safeguards in place. Runyon Canyon, however, will remain closed.
Physical distancing and infection control protocols must be adhered to and cloth facing coverings must be worn. Employers are required to provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with others and limit the number of people entering businesses so that a physical distance of at least six feet can be maintained at all times by employees and customers.
Employers must allow for frequent handwashing or have sanitizer available when hand washing isn’t possible and may also need to stagger employee shifts to ensure that they can work at a safe distance from one another while on site. The public will be required to follow the measures put in place by the businesses and wear a cloth face covering to enter the establishments or secure purchases curbside. Later next week additional restrictions may be lifted to include other retailers, manufacturers, and recreational facilities.
The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
Essential businesses must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter essential businesses as well. Beaches, trails and trailheads and non-essential businesses remain closed, and all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited.
