As of today, the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in West Hollywood remains at 166, the same as on Thursday.
The Los Angeles County Department of Health Department reports there have been 1,072 newly confirmed infections across the county, bringing that total to 43,052. There have been 35 new deaths associated with virus, bringing that total to 2,049.
As of today, 2,391 West Hollywood residents have been tested for the virus, an increase of 60 from yesterday’s count of 2,062. The Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard http://dashboard.publichealth.lacounty.gov/covid19_surveillance_dashboard/ continues to report that only four West Hollywood residents have died of COVID-19-related infections.
The number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills has increased by two to a total of 128 infections. The number of infections in Culver City has increased by one to 135. The number of infections in the Hollywood neighborhood remains at 248. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by seventeen to a total of 501.
A new Health Officer Order is being issued today that replaces the previous Health Officer Order and allows for the reopening of beach bike paths and parking lots, indoor mall curbside service, and select vehicle parades. Non-essential retailers (those that aren’t grocery stores, cannabis shops, hardware stores, drug stores and doctor’s offices) remain closed to the public except for curbside service. Public and private gatherings of any number of people outside of a single household unit are still not permitted.
As of Saturday, the City of West Hollywood will require that all people wear face coverings if they are out in public. Face coverings will not be required for children under two years of age, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance. Children between two- and eight-years-old should only wear face coverings with adult supervision.
Such coverings have been determined to reduce the likelihood that an infected person can transmit the COVID-19 virus through the air by coughing or sneezing or even talking. Some people who are infected may be unaware of it and not showing symptoms at first.
Sheriff’s deputies will monitor compliance with the face covering rule and, according to the city, “will provide education and warnings, and will cite as appropriate. Not wearing a face covering is considered a crime and individuals are subject to citation.”
In today’s announcement of the latest COVID-19 infection and death counts, the Health Department expressed a concern about the impact of decisions by state and local officials to lift certain restrictions.
“As the recovery journey continues and more people are out of their homes, it may be more difficult to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said the Health Department’s announcement today. “Because there is a 14-day incubation period for COVID-19, the actions everyone takes today will impact where numbers are in two or three weeks.
“The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
“People who have underlying health conditions remain at much greater risk for serious illness from COVID-19, so it will continue to be very important for the county’s vulnerable residents to stay at home as much as possible, to have groceries and medicine delivered, and to call their providers immediately if they have even mild symptoms9
