A Malibu woman accused of hurling racial slurs and attacking a Black female security guard in the  West Hollywood Pavilion’s supermarket parking lot pleaded not guilty Friday to felony charges.

Kashmire Duran, 37, is charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon — a glass bottle — and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, along with a misdemeanor count of violation of civil rights. She could face a potential maximum six-year prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Security guard Natosha Lawson said she tried to break up an argument on Monday between Duran and her father in the parking lot of the Pavilions store and was allegedly bitten in the finger and struck with a glass bottle by the defendant, who is listed as white in the sheriff’s booking record.

Lawson, a licensed security guard, was treated at a hospital.

Customers who witnessed the altercation prevented Duran and her father from driving away until deputies arrived at the scene, and one bystander recorded video that shows Duran uttering repeated profanities and racial slurs while seated in the passenger seat of the car. She then rolls down the window, tosses something from the car and yells, “Here’s some dog food” at two Black security guards while using the N-word.

Lawson told KTLA Channel 5 that Duran threw a glass bottle at her and then yelled, “Get the (expletive) out of here,” plus a racial slur. The guard said that when she asked Duran’s father to take his daughter home so she did not harm anyone, the woman got out of the car and asked whether Lawson was threatening her, again hurling a racial slur.

The guard said Duran then shoved a phone in her face and when Lawson tried to slap her hand away, “she catches my finger in her mouth and proceeds to chomp down on my finger.”

Carlos Sapene, who recorded some of the interchange, created a GoFundMe account for Lawson.

“There is no reason in this world to use that language to demean a fellow human being. The color of our skin is just a feature, as is your height, hair color, etc. It is nothing more than melanin,” he wrote. “We need to stop the hate. I have heard and seen these on the internet before, but to experience this in person is so much worse.”

Absolutely pathetic. Curious what Pavilions Corporate has to say about this.

The good news is because of the internet, this story will follow her forever. Just like this other piece of information via a Google search:
On 06/17/2016 LA FINE HOMES LLC filed a Property – Residential Eviction lawsuit against DURAN, KASHMIRE.

Mike, so right. Now who just said “They’re saying, ‘Jeez, the reason I was able to stay sequestered in my home is because some Black woman was able to stack the grocery shelf,'”

Looking at the story and the circumstances of the incident,I get the feeling there will be a plea deal and the gal will not serve too much time in jail. That all depends if she has a previous record.

The security guard will get an apology,a fine will be paid and some time will be served. The whole incident will become West Hollywood lore and be forgotten in five years.

I hope it’s never forgotten, this is a horrible despicable person and with the serious racial issues we have going on in our society this should never be tolerated, and for the record I have always raised Natosha the beautiful Security guard whom went to aid this racist trash in the first place to be a very loving and kind soul regardless of the color of our skin and to show empathy and Natosha just buried her father who was murdered and for this woman to treat her in that matter it makes me a a mother hurt so bad… Read more »
