The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power cut off utilities on Tuesday to a house in the Fairfax district that has been the site of at least three parties held despite the city of Los Angeles’ ban on large gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Los Angeles Times reports the house in the 800 block of N. Curson Avenue, near Waring Street, was a “party house” that hosted a party with at least 40 people in attendance on Saturday night. The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the house about 11 p.m. and cleared the party.
The 800 block of Curson Avenue is in Los Angeles, one block south of the West Hollywood border, which is at Willoughby Street in that part of town.
The house was also the site of at least two other large gatherings. LAPD previously responded to party violations at that house on Sept. 12-13 and Oct. 17 and issued warning notices.
In August, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that houses used to host large gatherings might have their power and water shut off if there were repeated violations. These large gathering are believed to be coronavirus super-spreader events since there is little social distancing and people are often not wearing face masks.
A spokesperson in Garcetti’s office said the mayor’s staff spoke with both the property owner and the tenant after the October party, warning the utilities would be disconnected if there were any future violations of the ban on large gatherings.
