Hospitalizations, deaths and new cases related to COVID are all down on Monday, for the second day in a row. However, it’s too early too know whether this is an indication the latest surge has peaked or whether there was merely a reporting delay due to the MLK holiday weekend.
There are 7,328 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Monday. That’s 170 fewer people than were hospitalized on Sunday when there were 7,498 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
According to the state, there are currently 1,728 people are in the ICU with COVID in LA County.
LA County reported 9,927 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,024,190 cases since the pandemic began in March.
County health officials announced 88 more people dead from the coronavirus. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 13,936 people.
The highest number of deaths in a single day was 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8.
To date, about 5.25 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 18% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 11 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,753 cases since the pandemic began. The city had one new death; the cumulative death total is now 21 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 17 new cases for a total of 2,064 cases and no new deaths for a total of 20 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 3 new cases for a total of 768 cases and no new deaths for a total of 35 deaths.
- Culver City – 22 new cases for a total of 1,732 cases and 1 new death for a total of 58 deaths.
- Hollywood – 56 new cases for a total of 4,306 cases and no new deaths for a total of 39 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 43 new cases total of 6,595 cases and 1 new death for a total of 138 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 6 new cases for a total of 722 cases and no new deaths for a total of 8 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 3 new case for a total of 465 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 31 new cases for a total of 3,582 cases and no new deaths for a total of 96 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
