All new public restrooms in WeHo may be gender-neutral

Separate public restrooms for men and women might soon be a thing of the past in West Hollywood.

City Council will decide on Monday whether to make all multi-stall restrooms in public and in places of business gender-neutral. The new rules would pertain to new developments and commercial leases, as well as major remodels. Since 2014, city ordinances have required single-stall restrooms to be gender-neutral.

Agenda Item 5-B includes notes on creating restroom signage that is inclusive and does not reinforce gender binaries.

The agenda item by Councilmembers Sepi Shyne and John Erickson seeks to increase safety and accessibility for WeHo’s diverse populace, especially transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, as well as those with special needs. If it passes, city staff will begin seeking feedback from the community and drafting designs for proper signage.

I don’t know what is the big rush to do this. There is just no big demand in the city to do this .The city council would have been better off addressing the safety issues on Santa Monica Blvd. and the city as a whole.

Rather than just make a decision without a lot of public input, maybe the City should poll an important group of people: Folks who visit our restaurants, bars and night clubs. If patrons of the businesses that provide West Hollywood with its’ incredible tax base freak out and decide to take their business elsewhere, maybe we it makes sense of how visitors feel before making some huge leap based upon political correctness.

This will be the end of urinals and we will now have toilet seats with drops of piss all over them.

I doubt this will be as dramatic as people think. You go in the stall, do your business, wash your hands and leave. Not to mention, I’ve seen plenty of dads take their little children (boy or girl) into a stall to help them use the bathroom. It’s what you do when you’re taking care of your kid. Everyone lived. Nobody was scarred.

I’ve seen dads take their little girl into the men’s room with her head covered.

This item is so ridiculous I’m sorry to have previously supported Horvath. She supported this cis man who wants to take away my right to take a dump in a men’s room for his right to be one of the girls.

My advice to people who have a problem with single-sex public bathrooms ….. play the hand you’re dealt. We all have an issue that would make our lives easier if we had been born with something a little different from what we got, but we don’t expect the rest of the world to adjust to accommodate our misfortune. We deal with it and we move on! That’s what being an adult and a good citizen is.

We were dealt the hand with separate bathrooms for men and woman. This change is offensive to most people.

Doris Lessing warned about the politically correct and WOKE culture vigilantes like Shyne and Erickson pushing their ideas on everyone else. Their behavior is becoming ludicrous and a total farce. As for these bathrooms, they are toilets. Urinals would be in little cubicles. But in England they’ve eliminated urinals. To accommodate this nonsensical claptrap. How much did it cost to do this study with the city staff? How many transgender people live in West Hollywood? Doing research on the transgender commission, the only one that can be found lived in the valley. The rest on search sites and background checks… Read more »

It would seem these two individuals endorsing aberrant behavior are attempting to persuade the world to confirm with their ideas. While folks start out longing to be accepted despite such behavior now do everything possible to magnify their nutty philosophies.

No one really cares who your are or about your personal demons. You yourself heave you work it out . Accept yourself and please stop making waves in the general span of society. Find a way to be comfortable in your own skin without disrupting the lives of others.

Maturity, respect and dignity.

These two are simply the WORST. Sure don’t get mad if a trans person goes in a restroom they identify with. But to make it so there simply isn’t a men’s and women’s restroom with multiple stalls is ridiculous.

This will be tough for popular bars and night clubs just do to the costs and logistics of providing enough restrooms. But it will end bathroom “discrimination” which tends to work against women. I was in Ashville, North Carolina where they had one gender rest rooms and all I can say is that they were a lot cleaner. Anyway this is just the start of a discussion and lets see where it goes.

What a terrible idea for parents and their young children. Who are these 2 to decide what our kids should be exposed to. What’s next, no partitions at all?
