The City of West Hollywood is conducting a community survey to solicit public input about a naming request to rename the West Hollywood Library in honor of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Community participation in this survey is an important part of the engagement process and feedback is essential. The Naming Survey participation deadline is Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Community members may access the survey at w.eho.city/namingsurvey.
In accordance with the City’s Naming Policy, there are established uniform procedures that guide the nomination, consideration, justification, and review of naming City-owned or leased land, buildings, or facilities. In December 2020, this naming request was approved by the West Hollywood City Council. The City Council item from December 21, 2020 to request to rename the library is posted as part of the City Council agenda; the item is available at: https://weho.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=22&clip_id=3583&meta_id=197616.
The naming request is now currently under assessment by the City of West Hollywood’s Public Facilities Commission. The Naming Survey was posted following review by the Commission and it will be posted for a minimum of 60 days. Additionally, the Public Facilities Commission will seek an official action on the naming request from the following City Commissions and Advisory bodies, which will have 60 days to respond: Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission; Historic Preservation Commission; Human Services Commission; Public Safety Commission; Disabilities Advisory Board; Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board; Russian Advisory Board; Senior Advisory Board; Transgender Advisory Board; Women’s Advisory Board; and Social Justice Task Force.
City staff will return to the Public Facilities Commission with the survey results and official actions, and the Commission will, then, conduct a Public Hearing (date to be determined). Staff will also share recommendations about signage, identification options, and cost estimates. A Public Hearing will provide an opportunity for Commissions and Advisory bodies, civic organizations, and members of the public to offer relevant testimony as related to the naming request. The Public Facilities Commission will, then, prepare its recommendation on the naming request for submission to City Council. The City Council will make its final determination on the naming request at a future regular meeting, date to be determined. The Public Hearing and City Council meeting will be posted on the City’s meetings and events calendar at www.weho.org/calendar.

There are apparently Los Angeles County “Naming Requirements”. Name must include the words “West Hollywood”, must be approved by the county and facility must included the words “County of Los Angeles”. For all the work this involves traveling from commission to commission, resident to resident and getting input from everyone but the kitchen sink, infinite staff expense and other details. One could rightfully call this a “Fool’s Errand”. A big fat NO. I’m proud of West Hollywood and weho has no direct affiliation to RBG. This is really a spiteful proposal by John DAmico to get at Heilman. He needs to leave already.
