Yoel Neman calls for Chair Lynn Hoppingarner to resign from Planning Commission

“your going to have a Persian wedding and all those people are going to come from Beverly Hills”. said the Chair of the West Hollywood Planning Commission Lynn Hoppingarner at this past week’s Design Review Committee. Hoppingarner’s reply came about during the discussion of traffic concerns at 8850 Sunset Blvd. where a new large hotel project is being proposed.

Beverly Hills resident Yoel Neman took offense to the comment. He explained how the “Iranian Community is very upstanding, responsible, educated and socially involved. What Ms. Lynn Hoopingarner is saying is totally false and we would like her to resign from her post.”

Hoppingarner is the direct appointee of Mayor Lauren Meister who issued a statement to WEHOville:

As Mayor of the City of West Hollywood, I understand the concerns of the Iranian and Persian communities , and they will be addressed. Stereotyping any group of people, even if there was no malicious intent, is insensitive and inappropriate. West Hollywood is an inclusive community that welcomes everyone.

WEHOville is awaiting a public statement from Commissioner Hoopingarner.

Lynn’s comment was, at worst, inartful and inelegant. In normal times and in normal environments it would be a teaching moment accompanied by a heartfelt mea culpa and we move on. In West Hollywood 2022 we cancel the tenure of one the brightest and most thoughtful commissioners in the entire messed up system. I take offense every time West Hollywood officialdom adopts and uses the triggering word “queer”. Where do I get to demand the resignation of the insensitive elected public servants and bureaucrats who continue its use? They do not speak for me when they employ divisive jargon in… Read more »
