At least seven avoidable thefts by breaking into cars to steal visible laptops etc. Dumber than dumb as it perpetuates the word on the street that these crimes are easy and most likely for the criminal.

Go to West Hollywood , an easy mark.

I see this all of the time and a cop friend of mine says it’s a popular insurance scam to get a new laptop

Insurance doesn’t pay for the replacement cost of a laptop. It pays out the value at the time of the theft (which won’t cover the cost of a new computer). So, not a well thought out scam if it’s a scam at all. People just don’t think anything is going to happen to them.
