WATCH: Residents and business owners tell City Hall they’ve had enough

In a new video series produced by WEHO for the People residents and business owners in West Hollywood share stories and grave concerns about their City Council, discussing how they have abandoned their community and implemented policies that now threaten their public safety and economic survival.

“The stories shared are very powerful and reflect what a vast majority of people are feeling about our once great City,” said Keith Kaplan, Chair, WEHO for the People, a coalition that is concerned about the Council’s anti-community policies that are devastating the City. “We are going to do all we can to showcase these stories and push for change to help bring back public safety and economic security for West Hollywood.”

“I have no desire to live in a city where fear is the number one emotion,” said Tim Jahnke,, who lives and works in the City’s entertainment industry. He thrives on the diversity, the arts community and music industry that have also thrived in West Hollywood. He feels connected because his friends both live and work in the City’s entertainment industry. “But now, people are getting mugged in broad daylight and face no consequences. A man ran out of a store with an arm full of groceries, a security guy was running after him, and the manager was running and yelling to let the guy go. The criminals are too brazen. People will leave our city. I may leave too.”

Yola Dore feels the City failed her. She is a civil rights, human rights and women’s rights champion. She made sure people in West Hollywood were granted these rights when she helped build the City years ago. “As a senior and person with disabilities, the City now treats seniors and people with disabilities as an afterthought. The City imposes higher labor costs on businesses which forces seniors, unable to leave the City to pay more to buy their goods and services when they are already struggling to survive on their limited fixed income.”

WEHO for the People is a broad-based coalition made up of citizens, neighborhood groups, businesses and other interested parties who share a vison of West Hollywood as a dynamic, creative urban village with a strong sense of community and acceptance. At the same time, they are concerned with the aggressive, anti-community policies that are devastating West Hollywood (WEHO), driven by the SHE coalition (Shyne, Horvath, Erickson) who continually ignore and fail their constituents while supporting special interest groups that promise to support their future political endeavors.

Liberalism is destructive. The question is; when will people recognize it?

Sorry, not sorry. I have been highlighting the decline for the past ten years (resident since 1978). I was dismissed as a far right extremist because my observations did not align with the politically correct narrative. I’m talking to you John G and all your partisan cohorts. Y’all referred to yourselves as “coastal elites”, when in reality you were ignorant and misinformed men in cheap shoes and bad haircuts.

Weho has been way too busy tearing down it’s cherished history to it’s developer owners then bother with the desires of its lowly constituents.

All these folks comment on what WAS. . Currently is has become a mere stepping stone for future political office and/or endeavors by people that lack the true concept of a functioning city.

Our city is a complex web of residents and commercial interests which must have a better understanding of each other and a strong interest in the fortunes of each other. Like a web, the strands of our structure support one another. We are a resort city in the sense that people come here for entertainment, good food and pleasant accommodations. A city Council which has a broad view is required and citizen input is demanded – whether the citizen be a full-time resident for a pat-time worker. It cannot be “us” versus “them”. We need each other.

Powerful. I’ve lived here in Los Angeles for 36 years. In the past 2 years I have been attacked twice by violent criminals in West Hollywood, once in broad daylight in front of the WEHO Starbucks, out of prison because of Newsom releasing felons from Covid, while taking away everyone else’s rights, and the criminals supported by the City of LA DA and West Hollywood criminals with their no cash bail, diminished sheriff’s, and laughable ambassadors. Poinsettia Park and Plummer Park have become disgusting cesspools of violent and mentally deranged drug addicts and alcoholics that now control the neighborhoods and… Read more »

Ya’ got that right! If I lived in Georgia I would still vote for Hershel Walker just to get rid of that Communist Warnock.

No matter how much we complain nothing in California is getting any better, and West Hollywood is deep in that cesspool with increasing crime (I could swear somebody at city hall must be importing criminals to live here), and the ever increasing unfriendly climate for businesses. No one in a position of power to make it better here is listening.

Walker is totally unqualified to be in any political office. The MAGAs only want him in the Senate to control it and try to get their way to destroy our democracy. If they couldn’t do it on January 6th, they’ll try from the inside.

We know who to blame! The dreadful and hideous SHE. Started with the worst mare in the history of California. Lindsay Horvath. A ridiculous woman who absolutely has no talent except self-promoting herself like she is some middle-aged Barbie doll. That everybody should just love. Thank God we won’t have to look at her face anymore. Then there is John Erickson. Plus Sepi Shyne. In two years we could get rid of them. None of them care about business because they’ve been living off the public trough forever or failures in their own professions. The only talent they have is… Read more »
