Donations to Sepi Shyne’s run for a seat in the U.S. Congress representing District 30 show little support from West Hollywood residents. Campaign reports confirm almost 85% of Shyne’s donations came from interests with little or no ties to West Hollywood.
As of the July 30th recording deadline public finance reports confirm Shyne’s support in WeHo came from developers, lawyers, and her own commission members.
The list shows approximately 32 individual donors from West Hollywood. Notable donors are developers Michael Saei, $6,600, and Sinmar Bagheri, $4,600. In addition donations from Shyne appointees include Adam Darvish, Shyne’s direct appointee to the Human Services Commission who gave $6,600. Other commissioners or board members who also donated are Danny Hang $245, Lola Davidson $250, Eric Matos $250, Jonathan Wilson $370, and Mark Yusopov $225.
In addition, Shyne received donations from Supervisor Lindsey Horvath for $250, co-Councilmember John Erickson $370, and former Councilmember John D’Amico for $300.
Although Shyne ranked next to last in total fundraising in the most recent filing, she also showed more momentum than other candidates. Shyne’s new filing as of June 30th pointed to an almost 50% increase in donations over her first filing period.
Notably absent from Shyne’s donation list are any members of the Shyne family or Ashlei Shyne. Also notably absent from Shyne’s donor list are co-Council members Chelsea Byers and Lauren Meister, as well as John Heilman.
Then again, same thing happened with Ms Horvath.
Has anyone ever noticed Sepi’s quick turn from advocating for peace and humanity to anger, specifically against residents?
Sepi’s act is not one I follow nor would I cast a vote for her based on her short tenure on the WeHo Council. She telegraphs her punches and has since her first day in office. Her aims have little to do with West Hollywood and I think she is better off taking her show on the road, ASAP.
Now Shyne has taken a page from the Horvath concept in reporting her accomplishments ??? in her bulletin to the public requesting contributions.
I wholly support Septi (DEPARTURE from West Hollywood…for GOOD)
Access to our community should be a privilege. Folks that do not understand the concept of “giving service” should not deceive their way into a position with the city that is meant for the problem solvers and those with the ability to inspire others. It is not a “taking position” nor should it be interpreted as access to higher ambitions. A person making themselves available for “giving service” should also possess a full understanding of Ethics in theory and Ethical Behavior. This I learned from my earliest educators who introduced a school motto of Skill, Service and Honor. Every student… Read more »
Obviously, Shyne is not reaching the Anglo-Saxon majority from the names of her contributors. One would think she’s running for a congressional seat in Iran.
Direct hit.
The Mayor’s biggest problem will not be a lack of contributions from WeHo residents, it will be the number of West Hollywood residents actively campaigning for other candidates and putting up lawn signs for her opponents.
…and THAT visual should be used by her opponents. No support even in her own backyard! That speaks volumes.
I predict a run on “Anyone But” stickers that will be affixed in the middle of the night on any Shyne lawn signs that are placed anywhere not directly on camera;;..
that’s actually perfect… “Anyone BUT Shyne!” stickers. Fantastic idea! clap👏👏
I’m ignorant of such things, but, did I just learn that elected officials and appointed officials who’s salaries are paid by taxpayers can donate money earned by those taxes to election funds of other elected officials?
Just FYI WeHo Board and Commission members are paid something like $50 to $100 per meeting; it is not a career.
It shouldn’t matter. Those board members and commission members are appointed by council members. Conflict of interest. Change the law/bylaw/regulation what ever the hell it’s called. Unethical.
Board/Commission members can contribute to whomever their li’l ole hearts desire. No conflict, no contest, no kidding
of course she’s got low numbers from Wehoans! We have learned (the hard) way that she is a liar and a con artist!
Wasn’t so hard to learn. I learned it the 1st time she ran – then complained about how unfair it was. I think she’s a hostile person with no compassion at all for others. In fact, I’m beginning to believe she’s cruel. Definitely damaged goods.
Appointees, commissioners and city government employees should NOT be making contributions to our elected officials. Conflict of interest.
West Hollywood residents are theoretically sending Shyne a gift wrapped black ball.
