West Hollywood celebrates Senior Month in May with a series of events, including a health fair, awards lunch, lectures and a senior advisory board meeting.

Senior Month is presented by the city’s senior advisory board and has been put on for more than 20 years.

Activities include:

  • The 12th Annual Senior Awards Luncheon will honor members of the city’s senior community on May 6 at 11 a.m. at the House of Blues, 8430 Sunset Blvd. at Olive. Admission is $5. For reservations and more information, call (323) 876-1717. For the deaf and hard of hearing, call (323) 848-6496.

  •  The 12th Annual Senior Health Fair takes place on May 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Center at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. in between Vista and Fuller. The fair, which is free, will feature presentations, free health screenings and representatives from more than 40 community organizations.   • A senior advisory board meeting and reception, which will include a presentation of the recently completed “Community Study” and readings from authors featured in the annual “Senior Moments” publication, will be held May 29 at 2 p.m. at the City Council chambers in the West Hollywood Library, 625 San Vicente Blvd. at Melrose. Admission is free. A reception with refreshments will follow the meeting. For more information, call (323) 848-6510.
  • On Thursday, May 2, the first of two lecture series events will take place as L.A. Opera League member Tanya Len discusses Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece Tosca at “Tosca: A Tragic Tale of Love and Loss.” The English version will start at 2 p.m. and a Russian translation at 3 p.m. The free event will be held in Room 2 at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. in between Vista and Fuller. For information, call (323) 876-1717.
  • On May 23, a walking tour through the Harper Avenue Historic District will showcase the district’s unique 1920s and 1930s revival architecture courtyard apartments. The apartment houses catered to the movie industry and were home to many Hollywood stars. A tour bus will leave at 10 a.m. from the parking lot at Fountain Avenue and Vista Street. The tour will be led by Stephanie Reich, a West Hollywood urban designer, and Andrew Goodrich, a city intern who works on historic preservation. Admission is $2.
