Lauren Meister will formally assume the role of mayor of West Hollywood at the City Council meeting on Monday.
Meister, who was elected to the Council for the first time last March, will succeed Lindsey Horvath in the largely ceremonial role. The new mayor pro tem, who fills in for the major when she is absent, is long-serving Councilmember John Heilman.
Meister’s installation will take place at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., followed by the regular City Council meeting. She will be sworn in by Nicklaus Fox. Fox is a West Hollywood veterinarian. He also is known as “Helen” of the West Hollywood Cheerleaders, a colorful non-profit focused on promoting self-acceptance among LGBTQ people and ending the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Meister has been active in civic affairs in West Hollywood for almost 20 years. She got her start as a neighborhood watch captain. She went on to lead the West Hollywood West Residents Association, the largest neighborhood association in WeHo, representing residents on issues such as public safety, traffic circulation, parking and development, and advocating for protecting green space, preserving the city’s history and character and providing off-leash parks for pets.
Prior to her election, Councilmember Meister served on numerous commissions and committees for the City of West Hollywood, including Planning, Public Safety, Campaign Finance Reform and the Permit Parking Advisory Group and the District 1 Parking Committee.
She worked to mitigate the impact of traffic on new and proposed projects in WeHo. On the Council, she has advocated changes in the city’s parking regulations, initiatives to support small businesses and efforts to preserve affordable housing.
In 2013, Meister served chaired a committee that successfully fought for term limits, limiting all Council members elected on or after March of 2013 to no more than three full or partial terms on the City Council.
Meister run her own marketing research firm.
I don’t think one should have to be educated about the simple facts of the hearing during the hearing. Ms. Lightfoot should study the basic facts prior to the hearing, not burden the public and the other commissioners with her somewhat uninformed questions.
So asking questions makes you an “unprepared” commissioner? I always thought that is how you learned the answers. I remember a recent appointment by Abby Land, Jeff Prang and John Heilman, who they lauded to the heavens but turned out to be totally unprepared and in way over her head. If we base the ability of Council member Meister on her appointment to the Planning Commission we are in deep trouble. I have never seen a person as unprepared and unqualified as that Commissioner is.

Cy Husain/Dark Angel. No One “runs” for Mayor in WeHo. It is strictly an honorary title bestowed on each already sitting Council member by nomination & vote of their fellow members & basically designates them as chair of the panel during meetings for one year although they also often take on the public face & voice as a representative of the City but usually only with the approval of the other council members.
