| APLA Health invites you to join us on Saturday, May 13, for the 33rd Southland Theatre Artists’ Goodwill Event (S.T.A.G.E.) at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. After raising more than $5 million for HIV/AIDS service organizations in Southern California, this performance marks the final curtain call for the esteemed event.
This year, S.T.A.G.E. will honor The Abbey Food + Bar Owner David Cooley with our first-ever Humanitarian Award. Since 2001, Cooley’s West Hollywood hot spot has hosted numerous fundraisers for the organization and has helped raise nearly $2 million, allowing us to continue providing life-saving services to thousands of patients and clients across Los Angeles County. “APLA Health provides vital services to our community as the current administration is attacking both the LGBT community and health care,” Cooley says. “We can all make sure that the LGBT community continues to receive free and low-cost medical care by donating to APLA Health.” This year’s S.T.A.G.E., titled “Idols & Icons,” pays tribute to stars of yesterday and today and will feature a powerhouse cast list including Carole Cook, Kimberley Locke, Melinda Doolittle, Jai Rodriguez, Barrett Foa, Christine Pedi, Jake Simpson, Dale Kristien, Bill Hutton, and many more. David Galligan returns as director and Michael Orland returns as musical director in the show’s final year. Begun in 1984, S.T.A.G.E. has been the longest-running annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser in the world. Over the last three decades, more than 350 stars of Broadway, film and television have performed at the event. Funds raised through S.T.A.G.E. support a variety of APLA Health’s services, including primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care, the Vance North Necessities of Life Program food pantries, in-home health care, benefits counseling, housing assistance, HIV prevention and testing efforts, and a range of other services on which thousands of Angelenos affected by HIV/AIDS depend.
