A 27-year-old man has been arrested for trying to sexually assault a woman near the Beverly Hilton hotel who had walked from West Hollywood, police said Wednesday.
Cuauhtemoc “Temo” Perez of Los Angeles was arrested on June 14, according to Beverly Hills police Lt. Elisabeth Albanese.
The crime happened about 3:45 a.m. on April 22 on Wilshire Boulevard at Merv Griffin Way, Albanese said.
The suspect was captured on surveillance video riding a bicycle and following the victim as she walked from West Hollywood, Albanese said.
“The suspect grabbed the victim from behind and pulled her to a secluded location where he attempted to sexually assault her,” the lieutenant said. “The suspect fled the area on his bike, eastbound Wilshire Boulevard to westbound Santa Monica Boulevard.”
Media coverage led to a possible suspect, Albanese said.
“A thorough investigation into the lead, coupled with DNA confirmation, provided investigators with sufficient evidence to connect the suspect to the crime,” Albanese said.
Perez has since been charged with assault to commit rape, kidnapping to commit rape and assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury, Albanese said.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail
