With one new case reported as of noon today, there now are 154 West Hollywood residents confirmed to have been infected with the COVID-19 virus.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports there have been 1,073 newly confirmed cases across the county, which brings the total to 37,303. In its daily report the Health Department says there have been 40 new deaths associated with virus, bringing that total to 1,793 thus far.
The chart above, which shows weekly counts of confirmed infections in West Hollywood, illustrates that the surge in new cases in late March through April has slowed. The chart does not include infections among those who haven’t been tested to confirm whether they have the virus.
The number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills is now said to be 124, a reduction from yesterday’s count of 125. The count sometimes is changed when the Health Department determines that it had the wrong address for the infected person. The number of infections in Culver City also increased by four to 127. The number of infections in the Hollywood neighborhood has increased by two to 230. And the number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by six to a total of 454.
The Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard, which purports to offer data about infections in cities and communities across the county, continues to report that only four West Hollywood residents have died of COVID-19-related infections. However, it also has reported for many weeks that only 704 WeHo residents have been tested for the virus, a number that very likely is inaccurate because of the increased availability of testing over those weeks. WEHOville has reached out to the Health Department’s public information officer (who does not accept telephone calls) several times and has sent email messages questioning the data but has gotten no response.
The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
Businesses that can allow customers to enter must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and cannabis retailers that are legally allowed to remain open.

Who IS this unresponsive “public information officer”?? They need to do their job and be held accountable to the local taxpayer. I find it concerning about the lack of response to journalists. We in the City of West Hollywood rely on VERY localized, specialized news, such as Wehoville.com. I think there should be public outcry if our local health officials are not “accepting phone calls” and aren’t returning other forms of inquiry (assumed to be emails). That is their JOB to inform the central-point-of-contact journalists, and their job is to report to their readers/subscribers. I cry foul on whoever that… Read more »
