LA County Continues to See High COVID Numbers on Wednesday

Wednesday coronavirus numbers show the pandemic is still raging in Los Angeles County with high numbers of new cases, new deaths and hospitalizations still occurring.  While none of Wednesday’s numbers were record setting, they are still alarmingly high.

There are 7,949  people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Wednesday. That’s 23 more people than were hospitalized on Tuesday when there were 7,926  people hospitalized. The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098  people hospitalized.

The state reported that LA County hospitals have 1,699 COVID patients in the ICU on Wednesday, roughly 22% of all the county’s hospitalized COVID patients.

LA County reported 14,564 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The county now has a cumulative total of  958,497  cases since the pandemic began in March.

County health officials announced 281 more people dead from the coronavirus on Wednesday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 12,955 people.

That 281 people dead is the fourth highest number of coronavirus deaths in a single day the county has ever recorded. The highest was 318 deaths recorded on Jan. 8; the second highest was 290 recorded on Dec. 31; the third was 288 recorded on Tuesday.

To date, about 5.07 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 18% are testing positive.   

West Hollywood recorded 21 new cases, for a cumulative total of 1,672 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total remains at 18 deaths.

Below are the numbers for areas near West Hollywood:

  • Beverly Hills – 24 new cases for a total of 1,965 cases and 1 new death for a total of 19 deaths.
  • Carthay neighborhood – 8 new cases for a total of 721 cases and no new deaths for a total of 33 deaths.
  • Culver City – 19 new cases for a total of 1,601 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 53 deaths.
  • Hollywood – 46 new cases for a total of 4,020 cases and no new deaths for a total of 36 deaths.
  • Melrose neighborhood – 92 new cases total of 6,179 cases and 4 new deaths for a total of 131 deaths.
  • Miracle Mile – 8 new cases for a total of 671 cases and no new deaths for a total of 7 deaths.
  • Park La Brea – 1 new case for a total of 438 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
  • Santa Monica – 25 new cases for a total of 3,335 cases and 1 new death for a total of 91 deaths.

The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border. 

The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
