The L.A.. County Coroner’s office Wednesday released the name of a 27-year-old man who was gunned down on Melrose Avenue near Sierra Bonita Avenue.

Damien Scott Jr. of Los Angeles died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday. The incident led to a major closure of Melrose during a traffic rush hour. The killer remains at large.

Scott had been arguing with a man who pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s media relations office.

The suspect, who was driving a black SUV, was last seen traveling east through an alley just south of Melrose Avenue, Herrera said. He was described a 5-foot, 10-inch black man between 20 and 25 years old, wearing a dark jacket, according to the LAPD.

Police are unsure whether the shooting was gang-related.

LAPD West Bureau Homicide detectives asked anyone with information about the shooting to call them at (213) 382-9470.
