Now’s the time to plan ahead to join your neighbors as thousands of West Hollywood residents gather on neighborhood streets and parks on Aug. 6 in a show of unity against crime. That will be the City of West Hollywood’s annual celebration of National Night Out.
Events such as block parties, barbecues, live entertainment, and dancing will take place throughout the city during the evening. Attendance is free. A complete up-to-date list of events, times, and event locations is available on the City of West Hollywood’s website www.weho.org/nno.
“National Night Out is always terrific. Community members throughout West Hollywood enjoy hanging out and talking with their neighbors while making sure public safety and neighborhood watch is part of the night,” said West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico. “National Night Out gives residents and local businesses opportunities to meet representatives from West Hollywood City Hall, West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, and our local L.A. County Fire Stations and provides opportunities to socialize and make new friends. I hope to see everyone there.”
As part of the city’s National Night Out events this year, there will be a free family movie night featuring ”The Lego Movie 2” at dusk (approximately 8:15 p.m.) at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd., hosted by the city’s Recreation Services Division. Community members are invited to bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy a movie under the stars.
There also will be limited street closures during National Night Out. These will occur on Aug. 6, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. One area will be the cul-de-sac at Sherbourne Drive and Ashcroft Avenue, with closures at North San Vicente Boulevard and Ashcroft Avenue, and Ashcroft Avenue at Sherbourne Drive. Also, the 1100 block of North Ogden Drive will be closed to through traffic.
This year marks the 36th anniversary of National Night Out, which began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, law enforcement and community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and to send a message that neighborhoods are organized against crime. Nationwide, more than 35 million people in neighborhoods across the country gather outdoors to celebrate their unity and their successes in the fight against crime. Celebrating National Night Out has been a tradition in West Hollywood since the city’s incorporation.
National Night Out 2019 participants will include members of the West Hollywood City Council, Neighborhood Watch groups, the West Hollywood Gateway, the City of West Hollywood’s Recreation Services Division, and the city’s Public Safety Commission and Russian Advisory Board. Events will be held in coordination with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the City of West Hollywood.
The event times and locations as currently planned are as follows:
#1 West Hollywood Recreation Services Division’s Movie Night in the Park, 8:15 p.m., Plummer Park (grassy area by the tennis courts) featuring a screening of “The Lego Movie 2.”
#2 West Hollywood Gateway Block Party, 4 to 6 p.m. at the courtyard at 7100 Santa Monica Blvd., featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel.
#3 Russian Advisory Board Block Party, 6 to 8 p.m. on the Plummer Park Lawn between 1205-1215 Fuller Ave., featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel.
#4 West Hollywood West Resident’s Association Block Party, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Sherbourne cul-de-sac at Ashcroft and Sherbourne, featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel.
#5 Kings Road Tenant Association Potluck, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 801 N. Kings Road (patio and dayroom), featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel
#6 West Hollywood Heights Neighborhood Association Mexican Fiesta Night, 7 to 9 p.m., 1230 Horn Ave. ), featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel
#7 Ogden Drive Pet celebration with barbecue, 5 to 8 p.m., 1100 block of Ogden Drive, featuring Sheriff’s Station and fire department personnel

Are they not doing little local BBQ and meet in Norma Triangle, WESTKNOLL, flats behind gym, and througout?
Hard to talk & message to such a large crowd or discuss crime and safety in say a 5-6 block radius.
This is the event where the mayor and student council members tell us how safe WeHo is, while being shuttled to events by deputies. (Is there any public event they do where they don’t have someone with a badge and a gun at their side?)
Good observation. Most of our city events have an increasingly militaristic presence but it is hard to find the dedication out and about in the community unless one considers a patrol car racing around at break neck speed with sirens and lights flashing to be comforting.
Yeah, what’s your point. It’s small scale. We have a “President who lies…. The same way we all brease” Who would have any anger for every/any weho council member??? 1. Look how fast they got traffic to flow smoothly. 2. Look how cheap and easy and safe with so many street parking places 3. NOT EVERY PEDESTRIAN GETS KILLED CROSSING FOUNTAIN AN HIT MY CARS SPERDING 4. Already we were an Hotel thick City.
