Sam Borelli – Candidate Statement

For nearly 13 years I have been an actively engaged resident of the City of West Hollywood and am uniquely qualified to serve the community as a member of the West Hollywood City Council.  I am endorsed by many West Hollywood residents, commissioners, advisory board members, business owners and community leaders who believe that the time has come for new leadership and fresh ideas on our council.

Like you, I love this city and have made quality of life issues my top priority.  In 2003, I was unanimously appointed to the West Hollywood Public Safety Commission where I led the creation of the inaugural Public Safety Education Campaign.  I also worked to strengthen our active Neighborhood Watch program and attend those meetings to hear your concerns and work toward resolution.

My vision for West Hollywood is one that moves us forward while maintaining the same spirit that led the community to join forces and form our own city.  I believe in a city made up of different genders, cultures, ages, sexual identities, ethnicities, abilities, national origins and religions.

I am confident that we can reinvigorate West Hollywood as the creative city.  I believe that we need to continue to be leaders when it comes to social issues and economic strength while being a model of integrity and source of pride for those that live here, work here and play here.  I believe in measured development that fits the needs of the community and public resources that directly enhance the lives of others.

I have a proven track record of creating and advancing community-based businesses and non-profit organizations. I am an independent consultant working with organizations on communication strategies and objectives.  Prior to this I was the operations and care manager for a West Hollywood-based, home-health care agency that provided caregivers to seniors and those in need.

I am proud to have been a board member of The Trevor Project in its early years and helped to lay the foundation for its growth into the vital organization that it is today.  I have volunteered for The Life Group LA, Angels of Change and Models of Pride.  I co-founded the LA LGBT Youth Advocates Coalition and was instrumental in launching an intergenerational activity program, The Buddy System.

I am a solutions-based thinker and will bring that approach of openness, consideration, respect and determination to my role as your Councilmember.
