WEHOville residents and visitors will find two new Asian-inspired menus when dining out this month.
Red Medicine, the late night Vietnamese restaurant in Beverly Hills, is collaborating with Vincent Jung of Formosa Café to launch Red Med at Formosa Café.

Inspired by the Beverly Hills Red Medicine menu, Red Med at Formosa Café will feature dumplings, bahn-mi, brisket and other Vietnamese inspired favorites.

“Formosa Café has been part of Hollywood for a long-time,” said Jung, Formosa’s owner. “Everybody in Hollywood knows, you stay relevant by constantly re-inventing yourself.”

Formosa, in the Jung family for three generations, is famed for its ties with Hollywood (it sits across the street from The Lot, where films such as “Robin Hood” (1922), “Wuthering Heights” (1939), “Some Like It Hot” (1959) and “LA Confidential” (1992) were made. Diners included Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner and Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner.

Mark Tagnipez (XIV, Red Medicine, Momofuku, EggSlut, Trois Mec) will be the chef for Red Med at Formosa Café. It is expected to start serving by the end of this month. It will be open for dinner from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Formosa is at 7156 Santa Monica Blvd. at the corner of Formosa.

A few blocks north, Asian fusion chef Kimmy Tang expects to open 9021PHO later this month at 7950 Sunset Blvd. east of North Laurel. The Vietnamese-centric menu draws on Vietnam’s French influence. Dishes like mignon are accented with Tang’s handmade sauces. Entrees also include spice basil chicken with bell peppers and chili and star anise salmon with lemongrass, honey, and lime and vegetarian options.

9021Pho also has locations in Beverly Hills (490 N. Beverly Drive), Westlake Village (30990 Russell Ranch Road), Glendale Galleria (1164 Glendale Galleria Way) and Sherman Oaks (Fashion Square Mall, 14006 Riverside Drive).
