Two men carrying guns assaulted and robbed a man entering a gate at the home of his girlfriend on Formosa Avenue last night.
The attack occurred just after midnight on the 1200 block of Formosa between Fountain and Lexington avenues.
The watch sergeant at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station said the man, whose identity hasn’t been released, was taken to the hospital.
WEHOville was alerted about the attack by a Formosa resident who expressed concern along with others in the neighborhood about a perceived increase in crime on the city’s Eastside.
A recent report by the City of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Department noted that nine armed robberies and 17 other burglaries took place from Fairfax Avenue east to La Brea Avenue during the last six months of 2017. The number of armed robberies was an increase of 125% from the year before.
Overall, the Eastside of West Hollywood accounted for 30% of the city’s serious crimes.
The problem with the “Westside” stats are that they include much of the Clubs up on Sunset along with the Boys Town bars & clubs so that skewers the crime numbers. If you took the Strip out the of equation the Eastside percentage would be a lot higher. The difference in the “crime” between the East and West sides of the City is that crime is at our doorsteps on the Eastside while most Westside crime is confined to Sunset and Santa Monica Boulevards. Well, there is a section called City Center where City Hall is. So, what’s that percentage.? Also, the Eastside is a smaller area than the west. And really what are we doing? Competing? We have a different type of street crime going on here. Is anyone in the Norma Triangle afraid to walk to Pavilions? Because people ARE afraid to walk to the Trader Joe’s on Poinsettia. If it occurred as reported, we know they weren’t homeless who robbed the man. The homeless cannot afford guns or ammunition and there has never been a gun found in the tent encampments when they are removed from the sidewalks or on the homeless who are searched. As the LAPD Lead Officer said in the Neighborhood Meeting, He believes the crime “uptick” is not due to the Homelessness, but rather an organized group of criminals. Since you’re such a supporter of homeless rights, why don’t you open your home and fill it to the brim. That way we’ll get some off the street and have fewer tents to trip over. Sick of your rah rah – crime is crime and homeless commit enough.
There was a second stabbing last night, fortunately not a murder as happened on March 4th. We ALL know, not all crimes are committed by the homeless, but criminal transients are a huge problem here on the Eastside. Get to know your city, Eric, if you hope to be running it.
I originate from NYC. Came out here for univ,career and of course weather!! In the yrs since I established myself 30yrs here I’ve witnessed this city becoming ever worse than the east village and lower east side of NYC. Which is to say, first this city dealt with gang related criminal activity surges, Now we’re all witnessing in our communities extreme homeless population,extreme criminal activity and health hazards of Hep A. Our laws aren’t protecting us but giving way for the above lifestyles to take over our communities. Where do we go from here???
The Westside, defined as the area from La Cienega Boulevard west to Doheny, accounted for 48% of serious crimes during the last six months of 2017. The Center City area, which extends from La Cienega Boulevard east to Fairfax, accounted for 20% of serious crimes during that period.
